Snowflake Gala 2018

The EGSS is proud to present the third annual Snowflake Gala! The Snowflake gala is a year-end celebration for English graduate students, faculty, and staff. This year, the event will be on Saturday, December 15, from 6:30–11 pm at Lisa Surridge’s house. We’re asking people to please bring something to share, either wine, an appetizer, a salad, a dessert, a fruit plate, or a side dish (like a casserole). We will be serving dinner, and will have vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free options.

Please RSVP to Janice Niemann by Monday, December 10. Partners are welcome, but we ask that you leave all kids and peanuts at home.

Please check your emails for the venue address and other important details.
Thank you to Janice Niemann for organizing this event and to Lisa Surridge for hosting us.

The only thing you may want to bring your wallet for is ice cream. As this is a family event, children and partners are more than welcome!

Oct. 29th: Halloween Social

With the end of the month quickly approaching, Halloween is just around the corner! Whether you are planning on dressing up in costume or just looking for a casual night-out to de-stress from your work load, EGSS has booked the perfect venue!

Please join us for dinner and drinks at the Yates Street Taphouse on Saturday, October 29th at 5 p.m. Reservation has been made for the EGSS, and appetizers will be provided.

For those of you interested, Hermann’s Jazz Club (1 min walking distance from the Taphouse) is also hosting a live band event called “Halloween Howl: Groove Kitchen” on the same night at 8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online ($12) or at the door ($15), and doors open at 6 p.m. We held last year’s Halloween party at this venue, and the night was a blast filled with great music and dancing! Costumes are also encouraged for this event but not required.

Year-End Event!

The EGSS will be hosting a year-end event on Thursday, April 7. All faculty, graduate students, and their families are welcome to attend!

Our celebration will begin with laser tag at Laser City from 5:00-6:00 and will continue from 6:00 onwards at Swan’s Brewpub. If you are interested in playing laser tag, you must sign-up via the sign-up sheet on the Grad Lounge door. There is only room for 16 players, so claim your space before you miss out! If you can’t join us for laser tag, be sure to pop by the pub for some appetizers and socializing.

We hope to see you there!
